The She Tank, an advocacy organisation dedicated to advancing gender equality by promoting women’s advancement and economic independence, and BellaNaija, a leading lifestyle and entertainment platform in Africa, released a groundbreaking film as part of their 2024 Women’s Economic Power Campaign.
With a fresh, powerful narrative led by Nigerian actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele, the film showcases real stories of women who have used their economic power to lift themselves and those around them, inspiring a younger generation to follow suit.
Titled #HerMoneyHerPower, the campaign’s primary goal is to spark a national conversation about the transformative impact of women’s financial independence on their families, communities, and the economy at large.
Highlighting Economic Power as a Catalyst for Change
The film serves as the campaign’s cornerstone and weaves vignettes that celebrate women’s resilience, determination, and success across different spheres. From a widow defying societal expectations by securing her family’s financial future, to a young woman from Northern Nigeria breaking cultural norms by pursuing a job in Lagos, the film illustrates how economic power enables women to take control of their destinies.
Funke Akindele, a symbol of female economic power in her own right, drives the narrative with grace and authority. Her voice-over emphasises the multiple facets of economic power, touching on its ability to give women a voice, a choice, and the freedom to pursue their dreams without constraint. The film’s message is clear: “When a woman has economic power, she uplifts not only herself but her entire community.”
“Launching this campaign with BellaNaija, has allowed us to push for change,” said a spokesperson from The She Tank. “We aim to influence and inspire women to take control of their finances and show that economic power is essential for achieving true gender equality.”
Helping Women Entrepreneurs in Nigeria Find Their Voice
At the heart of this campaign, Shecluded—a financial platform committed to uplifting female entrepreneurs—plays a critical role. As a platform that has consistently championed financial literacy, access to capital, and the importance of economic autonomy for women in Nigeria, Shecluded is proud to support the #HerMoneyHerPower movement. We believe that true financial freedom comes when women have the tools, knowledge, and resources to make empowered decisions.
Shecluded has seen firsthand the powerful transformations in the lives of women entrepreneurs—women like Seun, who started as a small business owner in Lagos and, through our programs, learned how to scale her business and become more confident in her financial decision-making. Seun, like many other women, has moved from barely contributing at home to becoming a key financial decision-maker. This shift is what the #HerMoneyHerPower campaign is all about—helping women harness their economic potential and step into leadership roles, both at home and in their communities.
Authenticity at the Forefront
The campaign’s authenticity is grounded in its portrayal of real women, not just celebrities or influencers, but everyday business owners and professionals who have overcome the odds to gain financial independence. This choice in casting helps drive home the film’s mission—to make women’s economic power the norm, not the exception. By featuring relatable stories, the campaign hopes to connect with women from all walks of life and encourage them to step into financial freedom.
“We believe that showcasing these real, everyday women makes the message of economic power even more accessible,” said a BellaNaija representative. “When women see themselves represented on screen, they realise that economic success isn’t just for a select few—it’s something all women can achieve with the right support and access to resources.”
A Visual Journey of Power
The #HerMoneyHerPower film is visually stunning, with each scene bursting with life and energy. With seamless transitions and vibrant colours, the film keeps viewers engaged from start to finish. Funke Akindele’s scenes, set in the bustling world of film production, add an extra layer of relatability for women in creative industries while offering a powerful message about leadership and success.
Campaign Goals
Through this campaign, The She Tank and BellaNaija want to spotlight the message that women’s financial independence benefits them individually and society at large. When women acquire financial power, they can contribute more significantly to their families, local economies, and communities.
The campaign encourages women to ask themselves a crucial question: “Woman, what does economic power mean to you?” With this call to action, #HerMoneyHerPower aims to ignite conversations in households, workplaces, and social circles about the importance of economic power for women.
The 2024 Women’s Economic Power Campaign is more than just a film—it’s a movement for change. To participate in the conversation, follow the hashtag #HerMoneyHerPower and join the wave of women taking charge of their financial futures.
